Δυστυχώς όμως το ίδιο δεν ισχύει για τα μεγαλύτερα κατοικίδια, τα οποία λόγω περιορισμένου εσωτερικού χώρου ή ανάγκης για κίνηση σε μεγαλύτερους χώρους βρίσκονται κατά βάση στο ύπαιθρο. Αυτό σημαίνει πως εκτίθενται διαρκώς στις εκάστοτε επικρατούσες καιρικές συνθήκες, με αποτέλεσμα να ταλαιπωρούνται από το αυξημένο κρύο ή τις υψηλές θερμοκρασίες. Αποτέλεσμα των ανωτέρω είναι να αρρωσταίνουν, να εξασθενεί ο οργανισμός τους και συχνά να καταλήγουν, ως απόρροια των συνθηκών με τις οποίες έρχονται αντιμέτωπα.
