Abstract

Τεχνητοί ογκόλιθοι ή χύδην αδρανή υλικά μεταφέρονται και αποθηκεύονται από μια τοποθεσία σε άλλη με μεγαλύτερο υψόμετρο με ανάλωση διαθέσιμης ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας, η οποία μετασχηματίζεται σε δυναμική ενέργεια θέσης στερεού σώματος. Κατά την αντίστροφη διαδικασία, γίνεται ανάκτηση και απόδοση της ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας στο δίκτυο διανομής στην κατανάλωση. Εναλλακτικά, αποθηκεύονται σε τεράστια σιλό με μεταφορικές ταινίες και επαναφορτώνονται με τον ίδιο τρόπο.
