Abstract

The placenta consist a valuable source of stem cells for cell therapy and future application in the field of regenerative medicines because it contains multipotent cells which, under appropriate circumstances, could differentiate to several cellular populations. All the researches use enzymatic methods for the isolation of mesenchymal celjs from the placenta with reagents that have not been approved for therapeutic use in humans. For this reason they use small segments of the tissue. Other research teams use systems of placenta wash which are complicated and there is a high risk of contamination. In the present invention we describe a method which, in a short period of time, gives the potential to isolate mesenchymal stem cells and hematopoietic stem cells without the use of enzymatic separation, without additional microbial load and free of mother blood. The present invention relates to a closed system where an increased number of stem cells are isolated for use in cell therapy, including adult therapy.
