Abstract

lectrochemical method for sterilizing seawater used as ballast water in ships. According to said method the ballast water is separated from its solid components with a hydrocyclone system and is completely or partially conducted to a precise electrolytic cell wherein - under special electrolytic conditions- oxidants are produced for the ballast water sterilization. For the oxidants sufficiency, oxidants are also produced by same electrolytic cell hydraulically connected into a seawater cistern. A REDOX meter is connected to the PLC which, following the indications of the first, commands, via a dosimetric pump located into an oxidant-containing cistern, the injection of oxidants and conserves the desired value thereof into the ballast water. Likewise, according to the REDOX meter indications and upon command of the PLC, the oxidation-reduction material is injected into the ballast water for the dechlorination thereof during its discharge from the inlet/outlet line.
