Abstract
999,652. Vertically adjustable seats. HILLE METALS Ltd. Oct. 5, 1962, No. 37787/62. Headings A4H and A4J. A vertically adjustable seat supported on a telescopic strut 1, 2 has a cage 5 interposed between the two components 1, 2 and helical springs 7 which, when the seat is loaded, frictionally engage a tapered surface 20 of the inner component 1 and prevent axial displacement of the two components 1, 2. The inner component carries a pin 11 whose ends are received in V- shaped slots 12, 12<SP>1</SP> in the cage 5 so that when the inner component 1 is rotated the pin 11 rides up the sides of the slots 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, the springs 7 disengage the tapered surface 20 and the inner component 1 and cage 5 may be raised or lowered within the outer component 2, as desired. The cage 5 is moved by a spring biased retainer plate 13. Rotational movement of the seat is prevented by an axial rib 25 on the outer component 2 engaging an axial groove in the cage 5.
