Abstract

999,628. Jacks. TRUSCON Ltd. Dec. 11, 1962 [Dec. 14, 1961], No. 44891/61. Heading B8J. A jacking unit comprises a lifting post 10 formed with an external screw thread, two beams 11,12 with apertures 13,14 through which the lifting post 10 extends freely, two hydraulic jacks 17, 18 operatively connected between the beams 11, 12, two internally-threaded nuts 15, 16 engaged on the thread of the lifting beam 10, one against each beam and an electric motor (not shown) for rotating each of the nuts. The load, consisting of the preformed roof and floor of a building is secured to bolts 19 by nuts 20 which hold the load firmly against extensions 25 of the upper beam 11. Nut 16 is screwed up to beam 12 and the beam 11 raised by the jacks 17, 18, the nut 15 being rotated to follow the beam 11 so that on failure of the jacks the load is supported. Electrical circuits (not shown) ensure that the jacks can operate only when each nut 15, 16 is in contact with its associated beam 11, 12. After the jacks 17, 18 have completed their stroke the lower beam 12 is raised by driving the nut 16, thus retracting the jacks. The lifting post 10 may be raised by securing the load and rotating nut 16 in reverse so that it engages a plate 27 and then continuing the drive to screw the lifting post 10 upwardly, rotation of the post 10 being prevented by projections (not shown) on the beams 11, 12 engaging grooves 28 cut along the post 10 in diametrically-opposed positions.
