Abstract

999,524. Casting concrete. DOW-MAC (PRODUCTS) Ltd. Jan. 31, 1964, No. 4110/64, Heading B5A. Hollow concrete bodies, e.g. pipes, are cast in a mould around tapered cores comprising tensioned wires covered by a flexible sheet material, the wires being withdrawn from the finished body subsequent to the moulding. In the embodiment shown, in which a plurality of bodies are cast in a collapsible mould 4, 5, 6, the core wires are tensioned between members 3 and are internally supported within the mould by diaphragm 8, around the notched peripheries of which the wires pass. The wires are constrained between walls 6<SP>1</SP>, which separate the cast bodies, by rings 7. The diaphragms 8 are located correctly within the mould between lower members 10 and pads 14 which abut pins 13 carried by cross members 11 which are supported by mould side walls 5. The pins 13 are longitudinally adjustable in member 11 by means of grooves 15 and co-operating keyhole shaped aperture 12 so that diaphragms of varying size may be used to vary the taper of the wires. In another embodiment rings 7 may be dispensed with.
