Abstract

999, 290. Automatic voltage control. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 6, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960], No. 32017/61. Heading G3R. [Also in Division H3] A crystal controlled oscillator, comprising two transistors 1, 2 having the collector of the first DC. coupled to the base of the second, the emitter of the second connected to the base of the first, and a positive feedback path from the collector of the second to the base of the first, is characterized in that a crystal 8 is connected in parallel with a resistance 3,10 in the emitter circuit of the second transistor to reduce the negative feedback at the oscillating frequency. The crystal 8 may be connected in series with a resonant circuit 13 as shown, or with a reactance, Fig. 1 (not shown) and the positive feedback is developed across a resonant circuit 5. The oscillator output is amplified by transistor 14, and rectified by diode 16 to provide a D.C. control signal which is fedback to control the conductivity of a pair of diodes 19, 20 in the positive feedback path so as to stabilize the amplitude of oscillation. These diodes are biased to operate on the exponential part of their characteristics and are arranged so that the current distribution between them is substantially distortion free.
