Abstract
999,286. Detonating fuze cord. E. I. DU. PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. June 2, 1961 [June 3, 1960], No. 20018/61. Heading F3A. A delay initiation cord for use in delay blasting has a continuous cone M of explosive to propagate detonation at velocities of ¢ to 2 milliseconds per foot enclosed in a metal sheath N. The metal may be lead or aluminium and may be further covered by a sheath O of waterproofing and reinforcing material such as a thermoplastic which is extruded round the metal sheath. The explosive and metal tube are manufactured by a drawing process. A use of the invention is shown in Fig. 1, where shot holes B at 20 foot spacings have been connected by dual runs A, A<SP>1</SP> of delay initiation cord. The cord is detonated at I by an initiator E; B 1 is fired first, followed simultaneously by B<SP>1</SP> 1 and B 2 after a delay of 20 milliseconds, followed in turn by simultaneous firing of B 3 , B<SP>1</SP> 2 and B<SP>11</SP> 1 after a further 20 milliseconds. It is stated that very little noise results in the use of the present initiator. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification, 815,532.
