Abstract

999,166. Treating light scattering photographic materials. KALVAR CORPORATION. Jan. 29,1964 [Jan. 29,1963], No. 3897/64. Addition to 874,698. Heading G2C. Light scattering elements are treated prior to exposure and development, with steam or water vapour at a temperature sufficiently high and for a period sufficiently long that the gamma value of the material is reduced, the temperature and duration of the treatment being not so high and not so long, that the element is damaged by the treatment. Preferably dry saturated steam at 212‹F. is employed. The light scattering material may contain p-diazodimethylaniline zinc chloride as photolytic agent and a copolymer of vinylidene chloride or ethyl acrylate with acrylonitrile or a homopolymer of methacrylonitrile as vehicle therefor.
