Abstract

998,963. Paper chromatography apparatus. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED. Aug. 8, 1962 [Aug. 8, 1961], No. 30296/62. Heading B1X. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a device for the automatic application of samples in paper chromatography comprises two heads between which the chromatographic paper 1 is passed, the upper head 2 having a capillary tube 4 attached thereto for supplying the eluate to the paper and the lower head 3 being equipped with an air jet nozzle 15, mounted on a carrier pipe 16, supplying drying air from below to the chromatogaphic paper. The upper head 2 is so made that the mouth of the capillary tube 4 is surrounded by a nozzle 5 through which drying air is led. The air to upper head 2 is supplied by pipe 6 which also carries the head. The intake end of pipe 6 is fixed in a member 7 which is hinged by a joint 8 to a top plate 9 of an air chamber 10. The position of the upper head 2 relative to the paper 1 may be adjusted by means of a set screw 14 mounted in member 7 and abutting against, the top plate. Air is supplied to carrier pipes 6 and 16 from air chamber 10 via openings 11 and 18 respectively, and air to chamber 10 is in turn supplied from chamber 22 through opening. 26 by means of fan 23 driven by' motor 24.
