Abstract
998,886. Radio transmitting systems. MARCONI CO. Ltd Oet. 9, 1963 [Nov. 23, 1962], No. 44324/62. Heading H4L. In a high-frequency distribution system, particularly for use in multi-transmitter radio stations, in which carrier drives to the various transmitters are provided by frequency synthesizors fed from a common master oscillator, the frequency distribution is effected by hybrid junctions which ensure that the master frequency continues to be supplied despite local circuit failures, and means are also provided for automatic changeover to a standby master oscillator. As shown, the main master oscillator 1 is arranged to supply a signal via a normally open gate 2 and gate control circuit 3 to block the gate 2A in the output circuit of the standby master oscillator 1A, but if a fault occurs in the master oscillator 1 the gate 2A is opened and the gate 2 blocked via control circuit 3A. The gates 2, 2A supply the single input ports of hybrids 4, 4A, respectively. One output of the hybrid 4 is connected to one of the two inputs of a hybrid 5 and the remaining output is connected to one input of a hybrid 5A, the hybrid 4A being likewise connected to the remaining inputs of hybrids 5, 5A. Thus whichever master oscillator is in use will supply both channels 5 to 8 and 5A to 8A. The output of hybrid 5 is amplified at 6, given a phase shift of 30 degrees at 7 and supplied to the single input of a hybrid 8, the output from 5A, being treated similarly but given a phase shift of 30 degrees in the opposite sense. The outputs of hybrids 8, 8A are distributed to a plurality of points, one only frequency synthesizer 24 being shown, by hybrids 9 to 22 and 9A to 22A, cross-connected as shown, the relative phase-difference of 60 degrees between the two channels ensuring that when the two input signals are present, for example at hybrid 23, the output signal is of equal amplitude to that when only one is present. A switch may be included to select which of the oscillators 1, lA shall act as master oscillator as by modifying the biasing of gates 2, 2A. A modification including an additional standby oscillator is described.
