Abstract

998,822. Packing for cooling towers. MARLEY CO. Dec. 11, 1963 [Oct. 28, 1963], No. 49033/63. Heading F4K. [Also in Division B1] A packing intended for use in a cooling tower, is supported by a frame structure 12, 14, 14a and comprises generally horizontal slats 16 of elongate rectangular cross-section having their ends supported in spaced-apart grid-like members, each consisting of horizontallyspaced elements 22 and horizontal elements 24, the elements 22, 24 defining elongated generally rectangular openings, the end of each slat being positioned in an opening so that one of its narrow longitudinal edges rests on a grid element 24, and the spacing between neighbouring members 22 being such as to maintain the slats in that position. As shown, the grids are suspended from an upper row of longer slats 16a the ends of which rest on the horizontal members 14a of the frame structure. The grids may be secured by staples 30 to the frame elements 14, 14a. The grids may be made of synthetic resin reinforced by glass fibre, or of stainless steel wire, or from carbon steel wire coated with a synthetic resin.
