998,745. Manufacturing flooring material. MANLEY TILE CO. Ltd. May 4, 1964 [May 24, 1963], No. 20875/63. Heading B5A. An anti-static or conductive flooring material of improved appearance is manufactured by (i) preparing a granulate of a P.V.C. homopolymer or copolymer composition, (ii) coating the granules with a conductive adhesive composition comprising a conductive powder and a powdered, plasticized, thermoplastic resin, (iii) compressing the coated granulate into a sheet or slab and (iv) dividing the sheet or slab to form at least one lamina at least one surface of which consists essentially of the uncoated faces of split granules. The granulate may be prepared from a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate or vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride copolymer-containing composition. The composition may contain a filler, plasticizer, stabilizer and/or pigment. The filler may be ground limestone or dolomite, china clay, precipitated chalk or whiting, fibrous talc or fibrous asbestos. The plasticizer may be dinonyl, di-octyl, di-alphanyl or butylbenzyl phthalate, or tri-xylenyl or tri-tolyl phosphate. The stabilizer may be a barium cadmium salt of stearic, lauric or ricinoleic acid. The conductive powder may be carbon black, graphite, aluminium or copper. The dividing of the slabs into laminµ may be effected by means of a slicing machine using a horizontal revolving knife. Any unevenness in the laminµ may be ironed out using a hot hydraulic press.
