Abstract
Melamine is made by heating urea and/or one or more pyrolysis products thereof in the presence of ammonia and a catalyst comprising BPO4 and/or AlPO4 adsorbed on a carrier, e.g. SiO2, Al2O3 or C. Examples describe the preparation of melamine using two reactors, the first of which has a fluidized bed of catalyst material and the other a fixed bed of catalyst material, passage of urea amounting to 100 gms./hour. Suitable reaction temperatures are above 220 DEG C., e.g. 350 DEG C. Specifications 767,344, 910,197, 910,198, 915,234, 926,594 and 969,298 are referred to.
