Abstract

997,670. Electrotherapeutic apparatus. P. GILHEAD. Oct. 24, 1963 [Oct. 24, 1962], No. 40243/62. Heading A5R. Electrotherapeutic apparatus comprises means for determining points of low resistance on the skin. Two transistors 11, 12 are interconnected to oscillate at approximately 800 c.p.s. or 1500 c.p.s. according to the setting of a switch 14 and the output is fed through a transformer 16 to a probe electrode 20 and a return electrode 21 which may, for example, be held in the patient's hand. A gas-filled tube 19 and/or a crystal transducer 17 are connected across the output and are so arranged that they give an indication when the electrodes are on open circuit, or bridged by the normal full resistance of the skin, but when the probe 20 in on a point of low resistance their outputs are either appreciably reduced or interrupted. The points of low resistance appropriate to an ailment are detected in this way, using an output of 800 c.p.s. and then treatment is effected by changing the frequency to 1500 c.p.s.
