Abstract

Diagnostic test papers are prepared by first impregnating an absorbent carrier with an acidic buffer substance which can be adjusted to below pH 7 and subsequently with a "protein-error" dyestuff. Preferably the absorbent carrier is in the form of paper and is sealed, together with an unimpregnated paper, between synthetic resin foils, that adjacent to the test paper being transparent, and the other white, as described in Specification 960,803. Specified dyestuffs are tetrabromophenolphthalein ethyl and butyl esters and tetrabromobenzaurin, preferred solvents being chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and methylene chloride. A specified buffer is citric acid/tertiary sodium citrate. As surface-active agents, sodium lauryl sulphate and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate may be used.
