Abstract

A non-polymeric di-isocyanate is prepared by reacting under dry nitrogen a mixture of 2,4 - tolylene di - isocyanate and 2,6 - tolylene di-isocyanate with glycerol a -allyl ether.ALSO:Polyesterpolyurethanes are prepared by a process which comprises reacting a non-polymeric allylic glycol with at least one organic di-isocyanate to produce a non-polymeric adduct, and then reacting the adduct with a polymeric propylene/ethylene glycol adipate polyester glycol having an average molecular weight of approximately 2000 to 5000, the proportions of the reactants being so selected that allylic cure sites are provided at least once for every 7000 units of molecular weight of the polyesterpolyurethane. Allylic glycols specified are glycerol a -allyl ether, trimethylalpropane monoallyl ether and 2-butene-1,4-diol. Di-isocyanates specified are tolylene di-isocyanate and p,p1-diphenylenemethane di-isocyanate. The reaction of the adduct with the polyester glycol may be accelerated by, e.g. tetramethyl-butanediamine; magnesium, beryllium, zinc, lead, ferric, thorium and cadmium acetylacetonates; stannous, lead and rare earth octoates; isopropyl titanium stearate; dibutyltin oxide and organic complexes of zirconium. The product may be reacted with more allylic glycol. The polyesterurethane elastomers produced may be peroxide or sulphur cured. The uncured polyesterurethane may be compounded with titanium dioxide, silicon dioxide, carbon black, coumarone-indene resin, stearic acid and/or cadmium stearate.
