Abstract

Rubber-like materials are obtained by reacting a mixture of a linear saturated polyester and up to 50 per cent by weight of the total mixture of a linear unsaturated polyester, both polyesters containing hydroxyl groups, with an amount of diisocyanate at least equivalent to the hydroxyl groups, followed by cross-linking of the product through the unsaturated component. The unsaturated polyester preferably contains a small proportion only of unsaturated component. In examples, mixtures of varying proportions of a polyester from adipic acid and ethylene glycol of hydroxyl number 56 and acid number 1.8, and a polyester from 6 moles. adipic acid, 1 mole. maleic acid and ethylene glycol of hydroxyl number 56 and acid number 2, are reacted with varying proportions of 1.5 naphthalene diisocyanate at about 130 DEG C., the product cast into moulds and and heated at about 100 DEG C. for up to 20 hours. Physical properties of the cured materials are tabulated. A polymerization accelerator, e.g. a peroxide, may be added before the reaction mix is cast into moulds.
