997,071. Processing a web of cloth. MILLVILLE MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 16, 1964, No. 1964/64. Addition to 912,887. Headings D1L and D1S. [Also in Division B6] The method of processing cloth according to the parent Specification is modified in that the drafting force is continually exerted on the web to provide continuous movement of the web during the application of the resin and curing and cutting treatments. In the arrangement of apparatus shown cloth is furnished from a roll 2 and led over a guide roller to form a loop 4. The cloth is drawn from the loop by drafting rollers 24, 26 and passes first through tensioning means 6 to 20 and then through a resin band applying apparatus consisting of rotary applicators 30 and 32 having spaced apart applicator bars as 30<SP>1</SP> and 32<SP>1</SP>, the applicator 32 receiving resin from a roll 36 rotating in resin container 34. From the resin applicator the cloth passes between heating units 40, 42 where the resin is cured, around drafting rollers 24, 26, between guide rollers 44, 46 to rotary cutters 48, 50 of the type in which the cutting blade advances with the cloth as the cut is made. Thesevered lengths of cloth with the cured resin bands constituting selvage portions drop on to conveyer 52 and are conveyed to a stacking and packaging station.
