996,976. Transistor limiting circuits. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. Aug. 9, 1962 [Aug. 9, 19611, No. 28799/61. Heading H3T. A limitor comprises a transistor amplifier with a diode bridge circuit connected in its input, the input impedance of the amplifier being such that the signal at the amplifier input is small compared with the input to the bridge. As described, the circuit comprises a first section consisting of a diode bridge D1 . . . D4 and transistors T1, T2 and a second section consisting of diode bridge D7 . . . D10 and transistors T3, T4. After an initial limiting by bridge D1 . . . D4 input signals applied at J are limited in amplifier T1, T2 by means of switched negative feedback paths in which diodes D5 or D6 conduct, depending on the polarity of the input, to apply negative feedback and thus reduce the input impedance of the amplifier. In the second section, the input impedance of amplifier T3, T4 is varied by a shunt diode D11, so arranged that the input impedance is a maximum when the transistor T3 is just cut off and decreases when either diode D11 or the base-emitter junction of T3 is forward biased. The section provides two antiphase outputs L, M clamped by diodes D12, D13.
