Abstract

A balloon limiter for spinning &c. machines is wholly or partly of double-walled construction with the inner wall porous, a hollow space being provided into which compressed gas or quickly-evaporating liquid can be introduced, whereby the friction of the yarn on the inner wall of the limiter is reduced and the amount of fluff &c. detached from the yarn is diminished: further the expansion of the gas or evaporation of the liquid has a cooling-effect. The gas may be air or steam and may contain wetting, anti-static or film-forming materials, emulsified ester compounds, waxes, chloric, fluorine or hydrogen or emulsions containing minerals. The limiter may comprise a number of double-walled annular sections with porous inner walls, interconnected by non-porous annular positions. In another form, the outer wall may be an elongated box surrounding the inner walls of a plurality of limiters. The porous native of the walls may be ensured by perforations arranged in rows or irregularly or may result from the use of sintered materials.
