Heading B8E A rotary tippler of the hinged deck type has means in its control system responsive to the correct positioning of a car in the tippler and arranged to prevent starting of the tippler rotation until the car is correctly positioned. The Figure shows end ring frames 1 of a tippler cage arranged to rotate in the direction of arrow X. The ingoing end ring frame has a fixed cam 13 and a retractable cam 9 connected by a rod 14 to a stop 7 loaded by a spring 8. A deck 3 pivoted at 4 is supported by heavy-duty springs 5 in the dotted-line position when an empty car (not shown) is in the tippler, a dummy axle on the car being at 6X. In this position retractable cam 9 forms an extension of fixed cam 13 and as the tippler completes a rotation the cams 9, 13 engage a spring-loaded cam wheel 10 connected to a valve A controlling rams B, C moving it to 10X so that ram B initiates release of front and rear catches holding the next full car and ram C brings the tippler to rest "inline." At this stage the cam wheel at 10Y is held " off " by the retractable cam 9. The full car moves, or is rammed into the tippler, pushes out the empty car and, by its loaded weight depresses the deck 3 so that its dummy axle at 6 engages the stop 7, compresses the spring 8 and moves the stop 7 a distance Z to withdraw the retractable cam 13, releasing the cam wheel and returning the valve A to its original position. This automatically resets the front and rear catches, withdraws the mechanical stop gear and initiates a further revolution of the tippler.
