Abstract
An oxymethylene polymer having polymer chains containing from one to twenty-five per cent oxyalkylene units having more than one carbon atom at least 80% of these oxyalkylene units being present in segments of from 1 to 3 units and the polymer chains having terminal hydroxyl groups is reacted with an acylating agent. The polymers may be made by the copolymerization of trioxane with ethylene oxide, dioxolane, 1,3,5-trioxepane, 1-3-dioxane, trimethylene oxide, pentamethylene oxide, 1,2-propylene oxide, 1,2-butylene oxide, neopentyl formal, pentaerythritol diformal, paraldehyde, tetrahydrofurane and butadiene monoxide. Specified acylating agents are acetic anhydrides -preferred: the anhydrides of other aliphatic acids, of cycloaliphatic acids, of aromatic acids and of heterocyclic acid while mixed anhydrines may be used. Acid halides, e.g. benzoyl chloride, may also be used. The usual esterification catalysts may be present. Specification 903,668 is referred to.
