Abstract

Aminotriazine condensation products believed to have the general formula <FORM:0996482/C2/1> in which R is an alkyl group having more than 10 carbon atoms; R1 and R3 are -CH2OR5; R2 and R4 are -CH2OR5 or a hydrogen atom; R5 is -CnH2nNR6R7 or a hydrogen atom (n being an integer) at least one R5 being -CnH2n+1, -CnH2n OH or a hydrogen atom; and R7 represents -CnH2n+14, -CnH2nOH, or -CnH2nN(R6)2 are the condensation products of a 2,4-diamino-6-alkyltriazine, in which the alkyl radical contains more than 10 carbon atoms, with paraformaldehyde and an alkanolamine containing one or more alkanol groups, each containing not more than 4 carbon atoms. The condensation is performed in an aliphatic monohydric alcohol containing not more than 4 carbon atoms.ALSO:Aminoplasts are the condensation products of a 2,4-diamino-6-alkyltriazine, in which the alkyl radical contains more than 10 carbon atoms, with paraformaldehyde and an alkanolamine containing one or more alkanol groups each containing not more than 4 carbon atoms. An aliphatic monohydric alcohol containing not more than 4 carbon atoms is present during the condensation reaction. The products are soluble in a 6 to 10% acetic acid solution at 70 DEG to 80 DEG C., aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorinated low aliphatic hydrocarbons. Emulsions of the products in aqueous acids which may contain paraffin, waxes, water-soluble zirconium salts (e.g. zirconium oxychloride), buffers (e.g. sodium acetate) and solvents are useful in waterproofing textiles and paper.ALSO:Emulsions of condensation products of a 2, 4-diamino-6-alkyltriazine, in which the alkyl group contains more than 10 carbon atoms, with formaldehyde and an alkanolamine containing one or more alkanol groups each containing not more than 4 carbon atoms, in aqueous acids and which may contain paraffin or waxes with, if desired, solvents, buffers and/or water soluble zirconium salts, are used to waterproof textiles or paper.
