Abstract
995,189. Turbine rotors. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Nov. 4, 1963, No. 43522/63. Heading FIT. A turbine comprises a rotor shaft, a number of rotor discs each of which has a hub portion secured to or integral with the rotor shaft and a peripheral portion carrying angularly spaced rotor blades, and a stiffener member secured adjacent the hub portion of one of the rotor discs, the stiffener member and the peripheral portion of the said one disc each being formed to provide respective integral means which co-operate with each other and thereby axially engage the stiffener member with the said one disc. A low pressure gas turbine rotor 15 mounted on shaft 21 comprises rotor discs 22, 23 carrying blades 28. Angularly spaced dogs 30, 31 are provided on the discs 22, 23, respectively, and engage dogs 35, 37 on the cylindrical portion 33 of a stiffening member 32. Spring biased plungers 40 on the cylindrical portion 33 enter holes 41 in axial flanges 42 on the dogs 31 to prevent disengagement of the pairs of dogs 30, 35 and 31, 37. A frusto-conical portion 34 of stiffening member 32 is welded at its radially inner end to the hub 25 of disc 23. Ribs 43 on cylindrical portion 33 form a labyrinth seal with an annular surface 44 attached to the nozzle guide vanes 46. The construction resists bending loads on the disc 23.
