Type-lever machines; aligning for impression. -In a typewriter, particularly a portable typewriter, each type-head 28 and the type guide 16 have means which engage immediately before the type face makes impact with the platen 12 so as to cause the type face to strike the platen perpendicularly thereto, and the pivots 20 of the type levers 19 are tangents to an arc lying in a horizontal plane 27 with its centre 26 vertically below the place of interengagement of the means on the type head and guide. The interengaging means may comprise a projection 33, Fig. 3, on the type-head and a similarly-shaped hole 35, Fig. 2, in the guide 16, or vice versa, or in place of the hole 35, a pair of small spring-pressed pivoted arms 37, Fig. 12 (not shown), with a V-gap between them may be mounted on the guide 16. The key levers 21 are mounted on pivots 22 and are connected to their type-levers 19 by links 23, and each key lever 21, link 23 and type lever 19 assembly is disposed in a slot 24 in the key-bar quadrant 15. Platens.-The platen 12 may be fixed or rotatable, or may be a bar which can have an arcuate section.
