Abstract

993, 437. Bridges. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Jan. 18, 1963 [Feb. 22, 1962], No. 6897/62. Heading G1U. [Also in Division H3] A bridge comprising equal resistors 10, 12, 13 and a variable resistance device 11 has diagonal output terminals 14, 15 and is energized by relaxation oscillations developed by a resistor 7 in series with a D.C. source and a four-layer breakdown diode to one input diagonal and a capacitor from the diode-resistor junction to the other input diagonal, whereby successive pulses are applied to the bridge, to develop pulses at 14, 15 which are negative or positive dependent on the resistance value of 11 being above or below the value of resistance of 10, 12, 13. A diode 16 supplemented by a diode 17 in series with capacitor 9 shunts device 11 so that the capacitor charging path does not include the load across 14, 15; the latter being returned to earth and the negative of the D.C. supply. Device 11 may be a switch, transistor, resistor, diode, photo-cell, or thermistor.
