Abstract
992,469. Sheathing cables by extrusion. SCHLOEMANN A.G. June 14, 1963 [July 19 19621, No. 23750/63. Heading B5A. In an arrangement for cooling a cable 22 entering a cable sheathing extruder 1 through a mandrel 8 with a hollow bore 10, consisting of a protective tube 11 inserted in the hollow bore 10, forming annular gaps 21 and 23, both with the inner wall of the mandrel and with the entering cable; a compressed air or vacuum connection is provided to cause air to flow into the inner annular gap 21 and out of the outer annular gap 23, or vice versa. A seal 25 and a sealing flap 26 are used to close the end of the inner annular chamber 21 where the cable enters. The protective tube 11 is a water-cooled double tube and is connected at the tip of the mandrel 8, in a heat conductive manner to air conducting tubes 18, 19. The finished extruded cable sheath 7 is cooled by a water jacket 6.
