A protective case for a maximum-minimum thermometer 15 comprises two parts, are a body 1, and the other a hood 2, the body 1 being made from a flat sheet of rigid material e.g. metal, being deformed to provide an open channel member, Fig. 3, the base 3 of which is adapted to receive and position the thermometer 15, and the hood 2 being formed with locking tongues 18 co-operating with slots 9 in the body to connect the two parts together. The hood 2 is supported by the angled ends of the limbs 4 of the body 1 and an extension 6 with an aperture 8 is provided by means of which case can be suspended. The thermometer 15 may be mounted on a plate 12 held in the case by tongues 10, 11 or may be directly mounted on the body 1, pressed up ribs then being provided to allow for the thermometer bulbs.
