992, 434. Shuttleless looms; selvedges. UNDAUER DORNIER G.m.b.H. Nov. 30, 1962 [Dec. 30, 1961], No. 45322/62. Headings D1E and D1K. In a shuttleless loom in which weft inserters 7, 7<SP>1</SP> move in opposite directions and insert weft threads alternately from opposite sides of the loom off spools 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, each inserter, Fig. 2, has a transfer device 17 and a receiving device 18 so that the transfer of the weft from one inserter to the other takes place at a distance X short of the centre line of the fabric. This distance X is made greater than half the distance between the edge of the fabric and a cutting device 6 so that the free ends of the weft thread do not project beyond the opposite edge of the fabric and alternate free ends of the weft are embraced by a weft loop at the selvedges. Clamping devices 4 are provided for the threads 2 coming off the spools 1 and further clamping devices 5 are associated with the cutting devices 6 which are adjustable laterally to control the positions of the free weft ends in relation to the selvedge.
