Abstract

991,958. Pulse circuits; circuits employing bi-stable magnetic elements. MULLARD Ltd. Oct. 16, 1963, No. 40856/63. Headings H3B, H3P and H3T. A pulse generator comprises a pulse forming network in series with resistance equal to its characteristic impedance and charged via a first switching device so as to generate one pulse, then discharged via a second switching device so as to generate a second pulse of opposite polarity. As shown in Fig. 6, a positive pulse at P1 triggers a silicon controlled rectifier SCR1, charging the pulse forming network PFN from capacitor C1, thus generating a current pulse in a multi-aperture square loop core connected to 02. The PFN is discharged by SCR2, triggered by a negative pulse at P1 thus generating a current pulse at O1. Bipolar voltage and current pulses are available at 04 and 03, the latter pulses may be delayed by connecting a saturable reactor across 03. Fig. 7 shows a circuit for obtaining bipolar pulses of different duration by use of networks of different delay times, the shape of the pulses being controlled by resistors R4, R5. The H.T. supply may be D.C. or a sine or square wave synchronized with the trigger pulses. The SCR's may be replaced by transistors, four layer diodes, valves or thyratrons.
