Abstract

991,296. Motor scooter frames; fuel tanks. TRIUMPH ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. March 6, 1963 [March 9, 1962], No. 9064/62. Headings B7E and B7H. The frame of a motor scooter comprises a pressed girder 9 of top-hat section, the lateral flanges of the section having secured thereto a pressing 11 defining together with the girder a tubular steering head, a lug 17 for the attachment of a trailing rear suspension link 5 carrying an engine and transmission, a pressing 13 supporting a platform 15 carrying a petrol tank 4 surmounted by a seat 3, and a platform 2 for the rider's feet. Flanges on the steering head pressing 11 are spot or seam welded to the flanges of the girder 9, holes being provided in the combined flanges for attaching a front shield. A strip 10 welded to the flanges of the girder 9 and to the lower end of the pressing 11 closes the remainder of the top-hat section. The platform 15 is slotted to facilitate welding to the end of the girder 9 and carries a pivot 8 for the spring and damper units 7 of the rear suspension. A tube 12 extending through the girder 9 forms a bearing for a brake pedal.
