Abstract

In the printing of security documents such as banknotes the validity of which is tested by a characteristic radioactive content, the ink contains the radioactive material. The composition of an ink used to print symbols on banknotes is given as follows with the exclusion of blanc fixe, kaolin or silica; carbon black 16%, bronze blue 7%, wax dispersion 10%, resin varnish 62%, cobalt linoleate driers 1%, cobalt paste driers 4%, and barium carbonate containing carbon 14 0.098%.ALSO:A document, such as a paper banknote, the validity of which may be tested by the presence of a characteristic radio-active material on or in the document, may have the radio-active material applied to it on one face in the form of a resinous coating. The radio-active isotope of carbon or tritium may be present in an organic component of such a coating.ALSO:In the manufacture of security documents such as banknotes containing a radioactive content by means of which the validity of the documents may be tested, the radio-active material may be distributed throughout the pulp from which the document is made or may be introduced into the paper in the form of a thread, or in individual fibres concentrated in a given area such as in a band or design. Radio-active materials referred to are the isotopes of carbon and tritium. The radioactive material may be applied to the documents by means of a carbon paper containing the radioactive material.
