Abstract

The invention comprises reaction products of maleic acid and maleic anhydride and the salts formed with metals and ammonia of <FORM:0990111/C2/1> wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or nitro and X is hydrogen. Specified salts are the lithium, sodium, calcium and basic copper salts. The invention also comprises the following compounds (given with their methods of preparation). (1) methyl beta - 2 - (41,51,61,71 - tetrachlorobenzotriazolyl)-butyrate from beta - 2 - (41,51,61,71 - tetrachlorobenzotriazolyl) - butyric acid and diazomethane; (2) N-(N1,N1-diethylcarboxyamido methyl) - 4,5,6,7 - tetrachlorobenzotriazole from N1,N1 - diethylchloroacetamide and 4,5,6,7-tetrachlorobenzotriazole sodium salt; (3) N-carbethoxy -4,5,6,7 - tetrachlorobenzotriazole from ethyl chloroformate and 4,5,6,7-tetrachlorobenzotriazole sodium salt; (4) N-methoxy methyl - 4,5,6,7 - tetrachlorobenzotriazole from chloro dimethyl ether and 4,5,6,7-tetrachlorobenzotriazole sodium salt; (5) N-dimethylcarbomoyl-, N-methyl carbamoylmethyl, N-(alpha - acetomorpholido) -, N - benzotriazolylmethyl - and N - carbamoyl methyl-, 4,5,6,7-tetrachlorobenzotriazole from 4,5,6,7 - tetrachlorobenzotriazole sodium salt and respectively dimethyl carbamoyl chloride, N-methyl chloracetamide, alpha - chloroacetomorpholide, 1-chloromethylbenzotriazole and chloracetamide; (6) 4,5,7 - trichlorobenzotriazole from 5,6 - diamino - 1,2,4 - trichlorobenzene by diazotization and ring closure; (7) 6-chloro-5-methoxy benzotriazole from 5-methoxybenzotriazole and chlorine (4,5,6 - trichlorobenzotriazole is prepared similarly); and (8) N - methoxy carbonyl methyl - 4,5,6,7 - tetrachlorobenzotriazole from methyl chloroacetate and 4,5,6,7: tetrachlorobenzotriazole sodium salt.ALSO:A white lead base gloss paint contains 4,5,6,7-tetrachlorobenzotriazole to protect it against fungal attack.ALSO:A fungicidal composition comprises as active ingredient: <FORM:0990111/A5-A6/1> wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 may be the same or different and are hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or nitro radicals, wherein R5 is hydrogen; an alkyl group; a substituted alkyl group; an acetyl group; a group of the formula -COR6, wherein R6 is a hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, aralkoxy, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino or disubstituted amino wherein the two N substituents are joined in a ring, group, e.g. to form a morpholine group; or the cation of a salt formed with metals, ammonia or amines or which contains as the active ingredient the reaction product of maleic acid or anhydride, with a of the above formula, or substituted derivatives thereof as defined, and a surface-active agent and/or solid diluent.
