Apparatus for playing either an indoor or an outdoor game comprises a projectile (Fig. 1) having a resilient hollow shell 1 of synthetic plastics, rubber or celluloid, and containing a quantity of loose particulate weighting material 2 such as sand, the projectile tending to settle without rolling in any position at which it strikes a surface. The apparatus further comprises an apertured target element as shown in Fig. 5, and a mechanical projector (Fig. 2). The projector comprises an arm 6 pivoted at 12, between two parallel plates 3 and provided at its leading end with a fork 15 for supporting the projectile. A lip 17 on trigger 7 holds the arm 6 in its cocked position against the action of spring 22, the trigger being pivoted towards the handle 11 of the device to release the arm. An adjustable abutment 26 on one of the side plates 3 co-operates with one of three recesses 28 in plate 25 attached to the arm 6 to vary the stroke of the arm and thus to vary the trajectory of the projectile.
