989,498. Pneumatic tyres. PNEUMATIQUES, CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE ET PLASTIQUES KLEBER-COLOMBES. Feb. 19, 1962 [Feb. 18, 1961; July 31, 1961], No. 6396/62. Heading B7C. In a pneumatic tyre, for heavy-duty vehicles, comprising a radial-cord carcase 10 and an inextensible tread reinforcing band of two or more layers 13 of parallel metal cords, the radial cord carcase 10 is formed of a single layer of natural or synthetic textile stranded cords or monofilaments which each have a denier of from 30,000 to 40,000. Where monofilaments of nylon are used each monofilament should be of a diameter greater than 1 mm. The single layer is rubberized by calendering with a composition having a modulus of elasticity greater than 30 kg./cm<2>. The edges of the layer are turned outwardly around the bead wires 21, Figs. 4 and 5, which are surmounted by a filler strip 22 of 75-90 Shore " A " hardness, and a reinforcing strip 23 of bias-cut parallel metal or textile cords or monofilaments is wrapped around the layer turn-ups. For additional locking strength an auxiliary bead wire 24, Fig. 5, surrounded by a reinforcing strip 26 similar to strip 23, may be positioned axially inwardly of the bead wire 21.
