Abstract
989,337. Automatic exchange systems. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 27, 1962 [Oct. 9, 1961], No. 36201/61. Heading H4K. In an exchange system having cross-bar switches arranged in ranks A, B, C, each rank containing a plurality of switches, the connection is established by operating, in each rank, corresponding select magnets of all switches of that rank and operating the hold magnet of the last switch to extend over the operated cross-point an operating circuit for the hold magnet of the previous switch and so on. The circuit shown relates to a system in which the switches of ranks B and C have both horizontal and vertical multiples, but the switches of rank A have only vertical multiples, the individual 10 x 10 contacts being connected respectively to 100 subscribers. The verticals of each switch are connected to horizontals of the succeeding switches and the horizontals of rank C switches are connected to feed-bridge circuits. The verticals are associated with hold magnets and the horizontals with select magnets. To effect a connection over switches A2, B2, C6 to a feed-bridge circuit, in each rank corresponding select magnets for all switches are operated. Thus select magnets A1/S1 (not shown), A2/S1 ..., B1/S10 (not shown), B2/S10 ... and C1/S9 (not shown ... C6/S9 are all operated. Earth applied to lead C6/V1/W energizes H1 to operate the crosspoint CP1/9 which reverts earth from the hold magnet contact to operate hold magnet B2/H6 of the preceding switch and so on. All the select magnets are then released. The arrangements is suitable for a sectionalized exchange of the type described in Specification 989,336.
