Abstract

The invention comprises sulphanilamidopyrazoles of the formula <FORM:0988616/C2/1> in which R is Cl, Br or CF3 or a C1- 4 alkyl or alkoxy group, e.g. CH3, C2H5, CH3O and C2H5O, and physiologically tolerable salts of these compounds with inorganic or organic bases such as alkali and alkaline earth metals, ammonium and diethylaminoethanol. The compounds are made by reacting a benzenesulphonyl halide bearing a p-substituent convertible into an amino group by hydrolysis or reduction, such as an acetylamino, carbethoxyamino, nitro or chlorosulphonylphenylazo group, with an appropriate 3-amino-pyrazole which may optionally have a substituent exchangeable for a hydrogen atom in the 4-position, converting the p-substituent into an amino group and, if necessary exchanging the substituent in the 3-position or any further sulphonyl radical which may have been introduced, for a hydrogen atom. 2 - Phenyl - 3 - amino - 5 - methyl - pyrazoles bearing a substituent R on the phenyl group, which are used as starting materials are made by the reaction of diacetonitrile with an appropriately substituted phenyl hydrazine. Pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of bacterial infections comprise the above compounds of the invention in admixture or conjunction with a pharmaceutical carrier. The preparations may be in forms suitable for oral or parenteral administration, for example, tablets, capsules, dragees, solutions or suspensions.
