988,530. Photographic composing-machines. NIPPON ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 7, 1962 [Dec. 8, 1961], No. 46236/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading B6W. Images of characters produced on the screen of a cathode-ray tube are transferred by optical means on to a continually fed record strip, an electrical control system being arranged to move a mirror in the optical system so as to displace the image horizontally and vertically, while at the same time controlling the strip feed motor so as to vary the feed speed in accordance with the characters and blanks being transferred, in such a way that the character images are formed on the strip in lines across the strip. A delay circuit utilized when a character is to be transferred is by-passed when a blank occurs, resulting in rapid movement of a scanning device over the character display device so that the time required to print a character is not consumed when a blank occurs.
