Abstract

1,254,864. Photographic type-composing. RCA CORPORATION. 17 Jan., 1969 [19 Feb., 1968], No. 8078/68. Heading B6W. Characters traced out on the face of a cathoderay tube are reproduced on a photographic film, a scanning spot for tracing out the characters being deflected at a constant velocity. As shown, a character such as " H " is traced out in segments 36, the non-character portions being represented by blanked out segments as shown at 38. The lengths of the segments are changed by control means according to point size. The scanning spot is returned while blanked to the base line 37 after tracing each segment. Signals read from a tape are stored in a memory, representing character width, point size, spaces LSB, TSB, and segment length. The film is moved only for line-spacing.
