A circular shoe attached to a pit prop by a chain 12 and clamp ring 13 is centrally dished to receive the prop base. In a modification a dished shoe 18, Fig. 5, particularly for a pusher ram in a mine, incorporates an arcuate shroud 22 which locates the ram and chainattachment lugs 19, 20.
