Abstract

986, 702. Weighing apparatus. GIRLING Ltd. Nov. 12, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962], No. 42199/62. Headings G1N and G1W. Relates to an open topped weigh hopper which is supported on electrical load cells and inverted automatically by an electric motor to permit discharge thereof when a required load is attained. A hopper 9 (Fig.2) has a shaft 16 rotatable in bearings 8 carried by a frame 7 supported on a plurality of load cells 6a to 6c (Fig. 3). The output from the cells is summated and the resultant output signal is used to start a motor 12 which rotates the shaft 16 through a gear box 11 sprockets 13, 15 and chain 15. A micro switch 17 is engaged by a projection 18 on the sprocket 15 when the hopper has rotated 180 degrees whereby the motor is switched off. After discharge a further switch (not shown) starts the motor and the hopper is rotated a further 180 degrees to receive the next batch. The tare weight of the hopper and appendages is compensated for by a fixed signal superimposed on the cell output. Several different ingredients may be added in turn to the hopper the proportion of each being controlled by signals from the load cells and when the required final total weight is reached the motor is energized to invert the hopper. The hopper is surrounded by a casing 1 having a feed inlet 3 and discharge outlet 4. The hopper may be arranged to oscillate through 180 degrees or even through less than 180 degrees.
