[Also in Division B8] An apparatus for assembling a sheet of parquet strips 1, e.g. of wood, the strips being arranged in groups of parallel strips, and the strips in adjacent groups being at right angles, comprises a plurality of magazine towers 2 . . . 5 each adapted to receive a plurality of similarly arranged groups one above the other, and pusher means 7 . . . 10 for pushing out the lowermost group from each tower on to a surface 6, e.g. a conveyer or a table. The strips are arranged in towers 2 . . . 5 as shown, and the pushers 7, 10 and 8, 9 are operated alternately in pairs, the surface 6 being periodically moved to the left through the length of one group. A paper web from a roll 15 may be stuck to the top of the assembled sheet after having been cut at 17 and after having had glue applied thereto by a roll 18 (see Fig. 2, not shown). An alternative arrangement of towers is shown in Fig. 5 (not shown). In another embodiment, Figs. 9 to 11 (not shown), a single pusher works in association with eight towers, the operation of the pusher, of pneumatically operated clamping plates for supporting the bottom layer but one in the magazines, and of a paper cutter (located in this case downstream of the adhesive-coating device) being synchronized, the pusher also serving to advance the assembled sheet over a stationary surface 6. In a third embodiment, Fig. 12, a paper web 91 is coated with glue at 94 and is pressed at 96 on to the assembled parquet sheet 95. The web is cut at 97 at a distance of 5 mm. from the junction 98 of two groups, the cutting being effected at each alternate group. The pressure roller 96 is then raised whereby a linkage 96a, 93<SP>1</SP>, 93a reverses a roller 93 to draw back the web 91, before the glue has set, a distance of 10 mm. so that a 5 mm. margin is left at each end of each plate 100 which consists of four groups arranged in a square. In all the embodiments, operation of the machine is automatic.
