Abstract

985, 646. Nuclear power plant. SULZER BROS. Ltd. March 2, 1964 [March 6, 1963], No. 8754/64. Heading G6C. A nuclear reactor power plant including a gas cooled reactor, and a reservoir of liquid coolant gas from which the coolant is replenished, has means provided intermediate the reservoir and the coaling system for supplying at least some of the heat required to vapourized the liquid, said means obtaining heat from a high temperature liquid. The primary coolant gas circuit (CO 2 ) comprises reactor 1, heat exchanger 64, pump 5 and non- return valve 3. Sensors are provided for measuring flow rate at 46, temperatures at 47 and 50, and pressure at 48. The working fluid circuit (water) comprises heat exchanger 4, valve 15, turbine 8, condensor 9, pump 10, condensate preheater 11, feed tank 12 and feed pump 13. A turbine by-pass line 16 is also provided. In event of any malfunction signal being initiated by one of the sensors, control rods 57 are inserted in the reactor, and valve 37 and a pump 30 in the coolant reservoir system activated. Liquid coolant gas passes through heat exchanger pipe 28 in the feed tank 12 and is expanded as a gas through valve 37 and thence to the reactor coolant inlet. In a modification for use in conjunction with a gas cooled liquid moderated reactor (Fig. 2, not shown), moderator is passed to and from a tank outside the reactor, the tank containing a first heat exchange coil for heating the liquid coolant gas from the reservoir, and a second heat exchange coil for cooling the moderator during normal running.
