Abstract

985,129. Screwing machine details. GEORG FISCHER A.G. Dec. 16, 1963 [Dec. 21, 1962], No. 49652/63. Heading B3N. A screw thread cutting device comprises a self-opening chuck 2 having thread-cutting means 40 displaceable radially, a rotatable chuck spindle 9 axially displaceable by a lever 25, a part of the chuck arranged to displace the thread-cutting means to the operative position, and braking means arranged to co-operate with the part to cause the displacement when the lever is moved to displace the spindle away from the work. A shaft 4 drives chuck spindle 9 through teeth 8 and a gear 16, the spindle being axially movable in a bearing 10. A sleeve 13 is rotatable with spindle 9 but relative axial movement is provided by a key 12. A second sleeve 50 is fixed to sleeve 13, and a grooved sleeve 56 is rotatable on sleeve 50. A camming sleeve 27 is axially fixed but rotatable on an enlarged end 2 of spindle 9. Sleeve 27 has an annual groove 28 which co-operates with a fixed braking annulus or part annulus 29, and a stepped tube chamfering tool 52 is carried by the spindle. A control shaft 20 is mounted in bearings.21, 22 and carries a fork 23 having rollers 24 mounted thereon. The rollers run in an annular groove 19 in the hub 18 of gearwheel 16. A lever 25 is secured to the shaft and the latter carries a pre-tensioned torsion spring 41. In operation the workpiece is moved into engagement with thread-cutters 40 which are in their closed positions. Lever 25 is moved from the full line position, Fig. 1, towards the left and the screw thread is completed. At this point a pawl 33 releases sleeve 56 and spring 63 rotates sleeve 27 to move cutters 40 outwardly to disengage the work. Spring 41 moves spindle 9 to the right, Fig. 1 and members 27, 29 are engaged, but a spring 41 is relatively weak, the shaft 9 is not stopped. Lever 25 is again moved to the left, Fig. 1, and the work is chamfered by tool 52. Lever 25 is again moved and pressure is exerted on the lever to engage members 27, 29 so that sleeve 27 is braked and the cutters 40 are closed. Sleeve 50 is rotated relative to sleeve 56 so that pawl 33 enters the groove in sleeve 56 and spring 63 is tensioned. In a modification, spring 41 is omitted. Specification 869,354 is referred to.
