Abstract

985,103. Ignition systems. DUCELLIER & CIE. Feb. 14, 1962 [March 10, 1961], No. 5697/62. Heading F1B. A device for generating ignition pulses for an internal combustion engine comprises a housing within which rotates a drum 4 having a number of slots 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d in its periphery appropriate to the number of engine cylinders. The drum is driven from the crankshaft through a centrifugally-controlled advance-retard arrangement. A holder on the outer surface of the casing contains a light source 2. This may either consist of a small bulb and an optical system giving a wide beam or a gas-filled lamp of adequate length. Light from the source enters the case through opening 3 and the light pulses which pass through the slots in the drum 4 fall on a photo-eletric cell 7. The cell is mounted for movement inside the drum in accordance with the instruction depression applied to diaphragm 9 and its movement varies the timing of the ignition impulses in accordance with this factor.
