983, 776. Magazine tapes; rewinding. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 28,1963 [July 3,1962], No.25819/63. Heading G5R. To prevent an over-sized tape-mouse 9 from being slammed against a tape-magazine mouth, whatever the state or speed of rewinding, a tape mask 8 or 22 actuates stop means automatically followed by restart means in the spool-drive so that the final rewind is slow. In Fig. 1, an actuator 1, started by rewind switch 2 engages a drive transfer to the reel until a foil 8 bridges contacts 6 to short-circuit the actuator 1. A slow-to-release relay 5 then opens contact 4 and its inertia provides a sufficient delay to allow the tape to stop, with or without automatic brake assistance. The foil 8 having passed the contacts 6, the eventual closure of contact 4 restarts the drive. In Fig. 2, a transparent leader 22 allows the illumination of a photo-resistor 17 to apply a trigger pulse to a previously-immobilised multivibrator 10, whose relaxation period switches current off and on again through an actuator 13 engaging the drive-transfer to the reel, rewinding having been started by switch 12. Contact means in the magazine, opened by the arrival of the mouse 9 may be arranged in series with the switches 2 or 12 to disconnect the drive when rewinding is completed.
