Abstract
983,699. Panoramic optical systems. Y. INO. March 15,1961 [March 22, 1960], No. 9454/61. Heading G2J. A panoramic optical system comprises an external group of negative meniscus lenses and an internal group of four positive meniscus lenses, the latter being arranged in two groups of two elements one on each side of a stop. As shown in Fig. 1 four negative meniscus lenses are followed by four positive meniscus lenses arranged two on either side of a stop giving a horizontal image whose azimuth is 360 degrees and whose elevation is less than 90 degrees. A second negative meniscus lens may follow the positive lenses Fig. 3 (not shown) or the positive lenses may be followed by three negative meniscus lenses to give an image in the form of a vertical cylinder, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the negative meniscus lenses are replaced by negative catadioptric lenses.
