Abstract

A tobacco smoke filter comprises a mass of fibres of regenerative milk casein material. The fibres may be treated chemically to increase the ratio of free amino groups to free acidic groups to enhance the filtration efficiency for acidic compounds, by reducing the cross linking between the molecules or esterifying some of the carboxylic acid groups. The filter may be incorporated in a composite filter. Quantitative examples are given.
